Former Fuzzbox member Victoria Perks, now known as ViX VoX, is the lead singer and ukulele player of the band and she is local and vocal as she talks to Moseley B13 Magazine.
“I’m a Moseleyite born and bred and immensely proud of that, and of being a Brummie! It means far more to me than being English or British. To have been brought up in such a diverse multi-cultural community has shaped who I am and what I do in every way!” (see here for full article)

Birmingham B-Side Project

B-Side Brum revealed – the 21 tracks chosen for the soundtrack to Birmingham

This is the soundtrack of Birmingham, as chosen by music experts who have picked the 21 songs for B-Side Brum, an album being touted as the ultimate playlist for Birmingham and the West Midlands.

The panel considered 150 tracks nominated by the public through social media to select just 21 of the most influential tracks by Birmingham or West Midlands artists.

The final list included Black Sabbath, Dexys Midnight Runners and ELO. Other artists include Ocean Colour Scene, Apache Indian and Joan Armatrading – but there were some notable exceptions.

The panel comprised the MOBO award-winning Laura Mvula, Vix Vox from Fuzzbox, The Specials’ Horace Panter and Phil Etheridge from The Twang.

Others included music journalists Pete Paphides and Matt Everitt, soprano Abigail Kelly and promoter Markus Sargeant.

They had just three hours to cast their votes, with the chance to hear snippets as a refresher

The original plan was to pick 20 tracks, but the panel could not choose two from the final three and so included them all.

Plus, there’s even a secret 22nd track.

The album playlist can be heard on Spotify and on YouTube, although, due to licensing issues, a handful of tracks are unavailable.

And, if you wondering what was on the long list of 150 tracks, then check it out here.

Review – Live at Magic Garden EP

Live at Magic Garden EP launches

Review by Nick J Townsend (Ryans Gig Guide)

“Class magic and charm produced by genius Gavin Monaghan This three track EP is a beautifuldose of alternative country and Americana created by talented all girl four piece ViX & her MsChiefs. The highlight on this CD for me is the tune ‘All the way from Birmingham’ which if you’ve seen the movie ‘StirCrazy’ is as deep and heartstring yanking as the ‘Birmingham Jail’ tune mimed by the character Grossberger played by actor Erland van Lidth de Jeude ‘Live at Magic Garden’ is a tender collection of superb well written tunes filled with wonderful ukulele cajon guitar and violin ViX’s vocals are as hypnotic as ever; she’s already known for being in the UK’s most successful all girl band FUZZBOX and musically ViX & her MsChiefs is a gigantic leap forward. You are in for a real treat”
